For high vacuum/cleanroom applications, we can provide ultrasonically cleaned vented shoulder screws.
Screws usually consist of a head and a thread. Shoulder screws, on the other hand, have an additional unthreaded "shoulder" in between. The shoulder is a larger diameter than the thread and has a very low tolerance. This helps with the precise alignment of moving parts; the shoulder screw acts as both a fastener and a dowel/axel/guide.
Shoulder screw fastenings are exellent for applications with rotating or sliding elements. They are often used in the automotive industry to attach gears or wheels, in the medical tool manufacturing industry, and in injection molding applications (where the shoulder acts as a linear guide so that the two halves of the mold align correctly).

We also manufacture our shoulder screws in the stronger, harder 416 series stainless steel (tensile strength 650 N/mm2, proof stress min. 450 N/mm2). AISI 416 series stainless steel also provides moderate corrosion resistance. Slot head version (P0133) of this shoulder screw also in stock.
Our large shoulder screws with thread sizes M3 - M16 and shoulder lengths 4 - 140mm. Meets ISO 7379. In stock in AISI 303 series stainless steel. This austenitic stainless steel product may be mildly magnetic due to the production process.
Steel shoulder bolts to DIN 609 with thread sizes M8 - M36 and thread lengths 14,5 - 45mm. High tensile grade 10.9 steel (tensile strength 830 N/mm², hardness 38 HRc) - also available in grade 8.8 steel (P0138 - sizes up to M42). This product is also in stock in stainless steel (P0138.A2).
Steel shoulder bolt to DIN 7968, in high tensile grade 8.8 steel - often referred to as 'structural' or 'construction' grade. Zinc plating (and other finishes) are available to protect from corrosion.
High tensile grade 12.9 steel shoulder screws with hex drive to ISO 7379. Grade 12.9 steel has tensile strength = 1200 N/mm². Standard thread sizes M3 - M20, shoulder lengths 5 - 120mm. For use within temperature range -50°C to +300°C.
Automotion Components's popular vented screws now come in a shoulder screw variation. Vented screws are useful for high or ultra-high vacuum environments because the vent allows trapped gases in the bottom of a tapped hole to escape more easily. Best used with a vented washer, which also helps trapped gases under the head of the screw escape.
Vented shoulder screws would be a good choice for applications such as vacuum cabinets, where panels must be aligned very accurately to ensure a good seal and when high vacuum conditions must be acheived - preferably in a short time.
Our vented shoulder screws are available in stainless steel (AISI 303 [our code: A2] and AISI 316 [our code: A4 - marine/medical grade]), and in titanium (grades 2 and 5).
