What is a Ceramic linear bearings?

In certain circumstances standard linear bearings can have disadvantages for linear movement. This mainly relates to the ball bearings in the units. These ball bearings are hard and need to run on hardened (more expensive) steel shafts, as well as being limited by the speed of the rotation of the ball bearings.
Ceramic linear bearings are generally of the same size as linear ball bushings but as the linear bearing surface is in full face contact with the shaft, the shaft does not have to be hardened. This means that the cost of the shaft can be reduced and softer grades of stainless steel can be used (such as 316L) which are more corrosion resistant.
The ceramic bearings can run faster on the shaft (for higher speed applications) as they are not limited by the rotational speed of the ball bearings.
Ceramic linear bearings can generally also take higher loads, are quieter, cope better with shock and vibration and are also non-magnetic.
